Lucifer had kept the secret at the ends of the Universe, in the places where none ventured. It was his secret but he had dared to bring that secret into the open. Another angel, not of the hands of God, but of the hands of Lucifer himself. The angel was born of fire within the beginnings, a fire Lucifer still possessed in his heart. That fire was forever part of him and he was forever bound to it. Mystiel he had named him, the secret one, the one of the unknown. Lucifer had loved all of the angels but this one, created of his own power was different. He felt the angel as one feels the sun upon their skin, a warm comfort.

He attended his duties as the guardian of creation. He spent many hours in the light of the universe, turning suns, springing life on a million worlds. Lucifer, the light, found great harmony in watching life cycle into complexity, fall, and be reborn a new from the ashes and pieces. It was his essence that drove the life force. It was one of these many day, eons and life times before the Garden that Lucifer felt the first of fear.

He had never felt this emotion before, it was dark and pleading. A cry for help. He answered and found himself before a group of angels. Mystiel surrounded by them and fearful of the way they spoke.

“Stop this.” Lucifer bore command. Many of the lesser angels backed from his presence as they always did. He was the favorite and first born of God.

“Father demands your presence for this insolence.” Michael, second born, spoke with equal authority but Lucifer would not be swayed. “You will come with us brother.”

He ignored the others and walked to his companion, his creation. Lucifer hugged the angel to dissipate the fear Lucifer could still feel echoing through his body like a pulse. His eyes focused defiantly on Michael.

“Lucifer, you will obey the words of our Father.” Gabriel had chimed in as the angelic embrace was released.

Mystiel cried out. Angels had flanked them and grabbed the youngest angel, Lucifer's angel. His weapon and armor manifested instantly. Many angels fled but they had already disappeared with Mystiel. Lucifer stood his ground as other feelings roused to life in his heart. Anger and betrayal forefront in the ocean of turmoil growing in his heart. He had yet to raise a weapon on his brethren but he stood firm in his place.

“Father foresaw this.” Michael had stepped closer. “Bind him.”

He could not kill his siblings but he did not wish to go willingly. Lucifer was bound in golden chains. When he would not walk the other angels dragged him to the throne room of God.

Cracks had happened in the being that was Lucifer. The first signs of his change. He was pulled to his feet before their father. His angel was blooded and bound on the ground in the space inbetween.

“You have hidden this from me Son. This abomination against the Universe which you aided me in creating.”

Lucifer stood silent and proud before God. He had done nothing more than that which the Maker had designed him for, He was the creator and first Light. He had created another to fill the void left when God no longer took the time to speak to him.

“All can be forgiven, my son.” The Essence of the Universe spoke. “Return it to the nothingness from which it was brought forth.”

Lucifer looked to his companion, staring and feeling the pain as it sought for his aid. Lucifer faced the throne, resolute. To kill an angel was a crime above all others. “No.”

Those words were never spoken by angels before. It was said once and among the gasps of startled angels the Morningstar grew more confident. “No, I will not raise destruction upon another angel.”

Angels looked away from him. Lucifer watched them turn away as he waited. The space had become heavy and oppressive. His defiance and the pain of his charge was all that existed in that moment.

“Will another do my work in the stead of your brother.”

Lucifer hung his head knowing that one of the angels would surely step forward to answer the call of God. Michael was first, others followed, but it was Michael's visage that was etched into the rage billowing within the Light Bringer. He had been the warmth that brought life but now, he felt the rage of a star; crushing pressure and burning fire.

Angels forced him to look up at Mystiel. The other angels were not creators they could not send him back to the void. Lucifer felt panic when he did not know what they would do in order to accomplish the will of the Lord. If God ordered the death of an angel he became a hypocrite to his own orders, but to God the thing in bonds was not an angel. It was nothing, something that should not be.

It started quickly. The archangels grabbed his companion angel from every point and tore him to pieces. Lucifer felt every pain. Tears burned in his eyes. No angel had ever cried from agony. The angels who had held him fled and Lucifer broke his bonds.

Calm washed over Lucifer as his mind broke the boundaries that had held him to morality. The anguish was too great to bear. His voice raised in a single scream. A voice which once harbored creation was now a call to arms as he charged Michael. He would kill them all for this atrocity enacted in the very heart of creation. They might strike him down. He might follow in death but it was better than what he felt left in the hollow that remained.

In that moment Lucifer clashed with his brother others fell in beside him, brothers in arms at war with the very throne of God.
